As a small business owner, I know how energising it can be to have a place to work that inspires you, so it was a joy to discover this stylish co-working space in Tunbridge Wells. I live nearby and have watched this project evolve, so my Small Business Stories series was the perfect opportunity to step inside and see what it’s all about.

Tucked away on St John’s Road in Tunbridge Wells, Room 49 is a striking space that will catch your eye when you walk past... and that's exactly how I also found the perfect venue for The BRAND Refresh photo sessions...

Easy, self-service co-working in Tunbridge Wells

Created by local business owners initially for their own use, Room 49 began with a building that needed a lot of care. The husband and wife team set to work and renovated the entire space, primarily to create an office for themselves, but over time they decided to offer something back to the local community. Today the space is a welcoming, calm, flexible co-working space designed with intention... and I have to say it's rather cool!

Room 49 is a somewhat well-kept secret, discovered through word of mouth and recommendations. Those who find it step into a light, thoughtfully considered environment - ideal for freelancers, creatives and small business owners who value focus, ease and trust. There is no long-term commitment, so it's also a handy base if you're between houses or having some renovations done at home and need to get away from the disruption!

There are plenty of desks thoughtfully spaced out within the co-working floor, and with so many options you can choose your ideal set up for the day.

A welcoming and inspiring creative space

Room 49 is a well equipped and functional office, however it couldn't be further from the traditional drab offices we used to work in. Peter, one of the owners, told me how they have restored the building back to its original brickwork and included plenty of original and inspiring details. The result is a quirky, stylish space with an industrial vibe... yet it's also really cosy and welcoming.

Downstairs, a meeting room creates the perfect space for collaboration and conversation, and the space is complete with a kitchen at the back... or there are plenty of coffee shops nearby to grab a coffee.

It’s this blend of practicality, purpose and community that makes Room 49 such a fitting home for The BRAND Refresh mini photo sessions where I recently held my mini photo sessions with local businesses, entrepreneurs and creatives. I've been thinking for a while that I'd love to explore this stunning building and, whilst finding co-working space hasn't been necessary for me yet, I knew this would make an ideal setting for my photo sessions.
